"Die Zauberflöte" at the Vienna Volksoper
Helmut Lohner's production of the "Magic Flute" opened in December 2005; two sets of boys were involved in the rehearsals and took turns performing.
The boys knowledgably judged the costumes ("like in "Oliver Twist") and the sausages in the opera's canteen ("yummy"). Director Lohner even included the teddy bear of one boy in the production. "But he wasn't allowed in the premiere after all", the bear's owner reported, somewhat disappointed. "They replaced him with a professional bear."
Rehearsals were followed by an obligatory visit to the strategically placed tuck shop opposite the opera house, "for strictly scientific purposes".
